Flying start at LANDMECO: Indonesia, Finland and the Philippines are on Rune’s calendar

In mid-August, Rune Thomsen had his first day of work as LANDMECO’s new International Sales Support Specialist, and he has done anything but sit in an office chair and be bored.

“Yes, there is enough to look after and there is pressure. It’s so nice, because it fits me perfectly as a person. There must be speed over the field,” says Rune Thomsen.

The first days were spent on the Danish country roads to get around and greet the Danish chicken producers.

As Rune Thomsen’s title, International Sales Support Specialist, suggests, he must support and advise LANDMECO’s network of salespeople within chicken production.

“I have to focus mostly on Asia and Europe, and when it comes to Europe, Denmark is one of the important countries. It is extremely important to have a feel for what is happening on the Danish market. Too much development and testing of new products takes place in Denmark,” says Rune Thomsen.

Feeling the Danish market and maintaining close contact with the Danish producers of chickens is also one of the reasons why Rune Thomsen is one of the main men behind a broiler seminar on 18 September at LANDMECO in Ølgod.

“It is just so important to focus on both the Danish producers and the many ancillary industries. Here in Denmark, we are just good at developing, testing and sparring about new products. We must stick to that, because it is both too troublesome and expensive to travel around the world to correct errors and adapt products. We must do that here in Denmark and in Ølgod,” says Rune Thomsen.

Denmark is one thing, but abroad also calls, and it’s good that Rune Thomsen doesn’t suffer from a fear of flying and has a passport that won’t get too old right away.

Flights have been booked to both Indonesia and the Philippines.

“In September, it is on a delegation trip to Jakarta, organized by, among others, Landbrug Fødewarer. It provides an opportunity to present the good products that LANDMECO develops and manufactures in Denmark. At the same time, and this is just as important, I get the opportunity to meet our two salespeople in Indonesia to talk about what support and guidance they need from me,” says Rune Thomsen.

In October, he will participate in a large poultry fair in the Philippines.

“Luckily, I learned to eat with sticks. Otherwise, I would probably have gone and lost so many kilos that I would have become a line in the air,” says LANDMECO’s new International Sales Support Specialist with a smile.

After the heat in Asia, November offers completely different weather conditions when the trip goes to Finland, which hosts the annual Nordic Poultry Congress, where Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish and Icelandic colleagues share experiences.

“It’s really a good arrangement, because there is actually a big difference from country to country when it comes to how legislation and regulations are implemented and handled. During the three days, there are a number of good presentations, and it is always good to get inspiration from outside,” says Rune Thomsen.
